Innovation World, hosted in San Francisco this year from 8-10 October, is Software AG's annual global technology conference. The event is called Innovation World as Software AG's business focus is to not only provide process excellence, but evolve companies' businesses into agile digital enterprises.

One of Innovation World's purposes is to give global recognition to customers, such as Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), which significantly optimises their enterprise structure through the innovative use of Software AG technology. Chosen from dozens of global nominations, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality was announced as the Digital Transformation award winner due to its vastly improved customer-facing processes.

EMM consists of 20 customer care areas and various service departments. These entities' business processes and technologies were not standardised or integrated, which caused duplication of work and cumbersome service-delivery processes.

By leveraging Software AG's webMethods and ARIS solutions, service delivery was optimised throughout six different departments: energy; water and sanitation; corporate and legal; city development; infrastructure services; and health and social services. Prior to Software AG's automation solution, EMM's Indigent Management process spanned over three months before qualifying applicants were approved. This process has been drastically reduced by Software AG's solutions and applicants' waiting time decreased by up to 70 days.

"We are continuously re-engineering our business processes to improve on service delivery. As the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality it is imperative for us to ensure we enhance our customers' experience when interacting with us. The 2013 Innovation Award for ICT Innovation highlights our commitment in streamlining internal processes to achieve efficiency as a municipality," says EMM City Manager, Khaya Ngema.

A government entity requiring solutions that will bridge the gap between technological innovation and business objectives, such as EMM, is the ideal partner for Software AG. As part of the company's commitment to creating ICT innovation in the public sector, Software AG is also a sponsor of GovTech 2013, to be held from 20-23 October inCape Town.

With this year's theme being innovation, there is a clear alignment between government's goal to leverage the four forces of cloud, social, mobile and big data, and Software AG's focus on creating digital enterprises through innovative solutions.
